Our spin on the infamous four thieves' recipe.
 
A Victorian-era legend about four 14th c. grave robbers surviving the black death by wearing a concoction of herbs and spices (they were arrested, but their sentence was reduced in exchange for their miracle recipe) might have helped druggists sell their versions claiming to ward off common 19th illnesses.
Indeed, a cursory search for thieves' oil recommends it as everything from a virus deflector (if sprayed on the feet, of course) to a counter disinfectant!
 
But what if one must deflect attention from authorities instead of warding off illness?
What if there were a scent so pure and invigorating that it could throw the scent off your trail?
 
In 1808, the French police finally apprehended Amélie Condemine. For twenty years, she had moved about the aristocracy in the Riviera as the Comtesse de Monteil, posing as an aristocrat, swindling their money and cat-burgling their jewels. The papers dubbed her "The Queen of Thieves."
 
A potent blend of spices, citrus, and clarifying herbs, use this oil as a perfume or try it on temples to relieve headaches; waft under your nose to temporarily open sinuses. But don't, whatever you do, depend upon it while you are robbing graves or vacationing royals.
